Martha Ellen Sanders
and Robert L. Moore Martha Ellen Sanders was the fifth and last child of Stephen Sanders and Amy Moore. Martha was born on March 13, 1868. In the Fayetteville Democrat of June 11, 1886, an obituary tells a story of Martha Ellen Sanders: "Mrs. Martha Ellen Moore, wife of Robert L. Moore, was born in Washington County, Arkansas, March 13, 1868, married March 13, 1885 and died June 3, 1886 after a week's illness. She professed faith in Christ about four years ago in the Methodist church at Prairie Grove, lived a consistent christian and died in the assurance of a better life beyond. She called her husband, parents and friends around her bed, told them she was going to die, gave directions in regard to her funeral and burial, requested that her sister take her two little children and deliberately bade them good-bye. She was the fifth one of the same family connection who have died of the same disease within the two months past, namely, her grandmother, Mrs. Moore, her aunt, Mrs. Marrs, her brother, Isam Sanders, and her little niece, Alex Sanders' daughter. She was happy in death and said she heard the sweetest of music. Our loved ones are showing us how to live and how to die. May our Father help us to be ready. J. A. Walden." Next to Martha Ellen's grave is a marker for E. M. Moore, Dec 25, 1883 to Apr 5, 1899. Also next to Martha Ellen is George O. D., son of B. L and M. E. died Dec. 26, 1887, a few months after Martha Ellen. It is believed that one of Martha’s children is Jennie Moore who was born in 1882, however it appears her date of birth does not match well the age and date of marriage of Martha’s.
