George Scribner and Catherine Maxwell

Text submitted by Thomas Lee Scribner

Records indicate that William Scribner, Charles father, was born on April 29, 1821, in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Ohio.  William married Susan Sophia Newberry some time around 1847, and had 8 children. Their names were Wallace, George, Viola, Minerva, John, Thomas Harvey, Charles, and Jacob.

The information that our family has collected indicates that 3 of William's sons decided to move their families westward. Thomas Harvey, and his two brothers; George and Charles, took their families towards the Indian Territory.

George married Catherine Maxwell. It appears from census documents that they settled and raised their family in rural southeastern Kansas. His wife, Catherine, was the sister of Johnston Maxwell. Johnston had married George's sister, Viola. George spent the last of his years in the Kansas City area. He died in 1920, in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
