Harvey Frances Scribner
Details concerning Harvey's life are
sketchy at best. We do know that Harvey married Effie Carroll on May 11,
1929. They had one child; a son named Eugene. I have one photo of Effie and
Eugene, posed with Harvey's father and sister-in-law Beulah.
What I've gathered from listening to family oral tradition is that after he
had divorced Effie, Harvey had lived in Burns, Oregon. He then moved to
California. Though we have no details we believe it was around this time
that Harvey married his second wife Elsie Green.
Tradition has it that Harvey eloped with Elsie and as a result, Elsie's
father shot Harvey in the back and killed him. Apparently Mr. Green was
acquitted of any wrong doing.
Harvey died in Tulare, California, and is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery,
Exeter, Barry County, Missouri, next to his mother and father. His
gravestone faces the road at the rear of the cemetery. His brother Floyd and
sister Viola are buried in another area of this cemetery.
